One of every four U.S. deaths is due to cancer.
Each year 1993 through 2003, over 9,000 West Virginians were diagnosed with cancer.
Cancer is the second leading cause of death in West Virginia, second only to heart disease and results in the greatest number of years of potential life lost.
The leading causes of cancer-related mortality for women are lung, breast and colorectal. For men, they are lung, prostate and colorectal.
If current trends continue, nearly one-third of Americans will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetimes.
